Balfour Day 3

Balfour Day 3 went very well. Today we asked students to begin creating protest posters that could be put up in their own schools to raise awareness about human trafficking and the food industry. Everyone was very into the activity and we spent most of the day working on slogans and working to make visually intriguing posters. We then began researching for our larger art project and many of the groups were excited about their geographic location and shocked by the amount of human trafficking in the food industry they were researching. Today was filled with a lot of energy and excitement in the classroom. Lets hope this continues until tomorrow.

Greetings Everyone! My name is MaryClaire Pappas and I am an art historian studying Scandinavian modern and contemporary art! I was drawn to studying Scandinavian art through the artist Edvard Munch (the guy who painted the scream 😱). After completing my M.A. at Queen's University, I worked at the Munch Museum studying Munch's drawing with a group of awesome researchers! During that time, my colleagues helped introduce me to contemporary Scandinavian artists asking questions about race, gender, and the politics of archives and museum spaces in Scandinavia! I now work with these artists to create exhibitions, research projects, and collaborations between artist-run centers in the midwest and in the Scandinavian countries.
